The second year of Girl's Wrestling in Mississippi is now in the books! The competition will advance as long as wrestling continues to thrive and spread throughout the state. It may not seem like a lot, but last season in the state tournament, there were a total of nine girls in four weight classes, with the biggest weight class having four girls. This year there are seven adjusted weight classes, and all but one of them has at least four girls. In our state, female wrestling has grown significantly, with more than 50 girls participating this season. Two defending state champions, Sydni Pruitt (138) and Lauren Hill (152) are looking to repeat at the top of the podium. Ladies, the growth of this sport is in your hands here, get your friends in the wrestling room, continue to recruit your classmates, and this sport is going to continue to grow. I highly recommend that you continue to stay active during the offseason, look for a local wrestling club and keep sharpening your skillset. Look for those offseason tournaments to get on the mat. More mat time is never a bad thing! Keep grinding, keep getting better, and kick some butt this post season! #sipwrestling
